About the Journal

Aim

Experimental Biomedical Research is a peer-reviewed, open-access online journal that publishes multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary original research articles, review articles, and brief reports in the biomedical sciences.

The journal encompasses experimental and clinically relevant investigations across basic medical sciences, surgical sciences, internal medical disciplines, biomedical engineering, and laboratory-based research. Experimental Biomedical Research particularly emphasizes studies that provide mechanistic insight, experimental validation, and translational relevance, aiming to bridge fundamental scientific discoveries with clinical practice.

Purely descriptive clinical studies without experimental depth are considered only if they provide substantial scientific contribution.

Scope

Experimental Biomedical Research publishes experimental, translational, and clinically relevant studies across basic medical sciences, surgical disciplines, internal medical sciences, biomedical engineering, and laboratory-based research.

The journal welcomes scientifically rigorous investigations including, but not limited to:

  • In vitro and in vivo experimental studies

  • Animal models of human disease

  • Molecular, cellular, genetic, and biochemical research

  • Pathophysiological and mechanistic investigations

  • Experimental pharmacology and therapeutic research

  • Biomarker discovery and validation studies

  • Regenerative medicine and tissue engineering

  • Experimental and translational research in surgical sciences

  • Innovative surgical techniques supported by experimental or mechanistic evidence

  • Clinical investigations with strong experimental design or translational relevance

  • Biomedical and laboratory-based studies contributing to diagnosis, treatment, or understanding of disease

Studies should demonstrate scientific rigor, methodological soundness, and clear contribution to biomedical knowledge. Purely descriptive retrospective clinical reports without experimental or mechanistic depth are considered only if they provide substantial scientific advancement.

Associate (Section) Editors for EBR

Manuscripts submitted to the journal are first reviewed by Associate Editors, if necessary. At this stage, they are checked for relevance to the journal and compliance with the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guide (Experimental Biomedical Research Submission and Publication Checklist). They may be returned to the author for editing and approval.

Peer Review Policy-Process

Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted via the online submission system. A complete submission includes:

  • Cover letter
  • Author and co-author information
  • Main manuscript file
  • Separate figure and supplementary files (if applicable)
  • Conflict of interest disclosure
  • Ethics committee approval (where required)

Initial Editorial Assessment

All submissions undergo an initial editorial evaluation to assess:

  • Relevance to the journal’s Aims & Scope
  • Scientific originality and significance
  • Methodological soundness
  • Compliance with ethical standards
  • Adherence to the journal’s formatting and submission guidelines

Manuscripts may be rejected at this stage without external review if deemed outside the scope or insufficient in scientific quality.

All manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software.

Language quality is assessed, and manuscripts requiring substantial linguistic revision may be returned to the authors prior to peer review.

Peer Review

Experimental Biomedical Research follows a double-blind peer review process.

Each manuscript is evaluated by at least two independent expert reviewers using the EBR Electronic Reviewer Assessment Form. Reviewers assess:

  • Scientific rigor and experimental design
  • Adequacy and reliability of data
  • Validity of results and conclusions
  • Methodological and statistical appropriateness
  • Originality and scientific contribution
  • Relevance to the journal’s readership
  • Clarity and organization of the manuscript

Reviewers provide one of the following recommendations:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject (resubmission allowed)
  • Reject (no resubmission)

If significant discrepancies arise between reviewers, an additional reviewer may be consulted.

Revised manuscripts are normally returned to the original reviewers along with the authors’ detailed responses.

The final decision regarding acceptance or rejection rests with the Editor-in-Chief. Editorial decisions are based on reviewer evaluations, scientific merit, and journal priorities.

Editors do not participate in decisions regarding manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest. Such submissions are handled independently in accordance with the journal’s standard peer review procedures.

The journal adheres to the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Copy Editing

Accepted manuscripts undergo professional copy editing for language, formatting, and reference consistency.

Authors must approve the final proof prior to publication. At the proof stage, only minor typographical or formatting corrections are permitted.

Publishing

Following final approval, the manuscript is prepared for online publication and assigned to an issue of the journal.
